Ben Malcolmson

Ben Malcolmson (b. 1999) is a visual artist and curator from Belfast who is based in Dublin. His fine art practice explores the boundaries of photography, video, and sculpture using alternative photographic processes related to land and identity. His curatorial interests focus on social engagement and activism through a public-centred approach, especially for young people. He graduated with First Class Honours in a Bachelor's degree in Photography with Video from Belfast School of Art, Ulster University, NI (2021), and earned a distinction in International Studies from The Royal Academy of Art, The Hague, NL (2019-2020). He has exhibited work nationally and internationally in Ireland, the UK, and the Netherlands. He has spoken at conferences and facilitated numerous workshops during his roles at Photo Museum Ireland as Curator of Education (2024) and Belfast Exposed as Assistant Curator (2022-23). Ben is a current studio artist at Flax Artist Studios, participating in the Emerging Artist Programme, and has received support from both Arts Council Northern Ireland and Arts Council Ireland. Additional activities include AIC Artist Mentoring Award, CREATE, IRL (2025), membership in the Constellations programme by Up Projects, ENG (2023-24), The Douglas Hyde Gallery Student Forum, IRL (2021), and the Making Marks residency awarded by the Arab British Centre, funded by the British Council Kuwait, ENG (2019). Currently, Ben works as a Registrar at Kerlin Gallery, IRL (2024 -), collaborating with leading contemporary artists such as Sean Scully, Dorothy Cross, Nathalie Du Pasquier, and others.
